Scheduling courses
How Coordinators determine dates and frequency of Theory courses vary. Most commonly, Coordinators structure the schedule around enrolments of students currently attending their institution and based on the number of students turning 16 years of age on or before a particular date.
Please note however, that class enrolments must not exceed 25 persons, and the facilities available for the DTAL class must be sufficient to cater to the number enrolled.
The DTAL Program is open to all individuals that meet the eligibility criteria, so when scheduling a course, it would be fitting to keep in mind that enrolments from outside the institution may be requested.
Theory 1 classes tend to be a minimum of six hours in duration, and may be delivered over the course of the day, or split into two or three sessions, generally outside of school hours. Theory 2 classes are generally three to four hours in duration and appear to be more effective delivered as one session.
Once suitable dates have been determined, the services of a Registered DTAL Theory Instructor should be negotiated to provide the Theory classes. Once the details have been arranged, the schedule of courses should be forwarded to the DTAL Program Manager at the earliest convenience so that they may be advertised on the DTAL website.
The organisation name, session dates and times, as well as a contact number, must be provided when submitting the course schedule. Please keep in mind that the contact number provided will be for public information.
Please email the course schedule to dtal.DET@nt.gov.au. Alternatively, the schedule may be faxed to (08) 8901 1326, for the attention of the DTAL Program Manager.
Cancellation or postponement of a scheduled course should be advised immediately so that the information provided on the DTAL website may be amended or removed.
