Working Mathematically
The Numeracy project provides a range of professional learning opportunities to teachers and schools in implementing a Working Mathematically approach, through a greater understanding of the five key Overarching Mathematical outcomes described in the NT Curriculum Framework (NTCF):
- Application of skills, concepts and techniques
- Communicating mathematical thinking
- Mathematical investigation
- Problem-solving
Use of technologies and other equipment, and, generalisation. Professional learning is focused on teachers developing student-centred teaching and learning programs incorporating the key Overarching Mathematical outcomes and EsseNTial Learnings.
Areas covered in Working Mathematically workshops include:
- Questioning techniques
- Open and closed activities
- Problem solving and mathematical investigation strategies
- How to plan and assess rich mathematical tasks
A recommended Australian resource for implementing a Working Mathematically approach is Maths300, an online collection of exemplary teaching and learning experiences.
