QuickSmart Numeracy Intervention Program
QuickSmart is a theory-based intervention approach in the assessment, diagnosis and remediation of basic mathematical skill deficits that impact on the numeracy of students. The program’s name was derived from the outcomes it is trying to achieve in students’ basic skills - quick in response speed and smart in strategy use.
During 2005 NT DET initiated the QuickSmart Numeracy Intervention Program Pilot Project in eight NT Schools, this was extended to twelve schools in 2006. Results from the extended pilot project have clearly shown that students participating in the QuickSmart Program have made very significant gains in their ability and confidence to use mathematics and have ‘narrowed the gap' in achievement compared to their peers. The target students are learners who are in Years 4 – 7, who despite regular attendance and no identified learning disability, have been unable to demonstrate the numeracy outcomes expected of their cohort.
In 2007, the QuickSmart Numeracy Intervention Program is limited to 21 schools in the Northern Territory:
