Numeracy

The Numeracy Project is intended to inform, support and promote initiatives for individuals and whole school communities to implement best practice numeracy teaching, learning and assessment. Improving student numeracy outcomes through improving teacher capability in both pedagogical and mathematics content knowledge, and, providing authoritative advice about numeracy to a range of stakeholders, agencies and networks is the core business of the Numeracy Project.

The Numeracy Project has an explicit focus on the successful implementation and development of the Northern Territory Curriculum Framework (NTCF) by increasing teachers’ understanding of:

  • principles and practices of outcomes-focused learning;
  • developmental continua and quality resources for the teaching and learning of mathematics such as Count Me In Too and Teaching Measurement;
  • working mathematically , including mathematical problem-solving and investigating, through the EsseNTial Learnings;
  • cross-curricula perspectives and connecting the teaching and learning of mathematics across other Learning Areas;
  • identifying and accurately assessing student learning and verifying achievement of outcomes in moderation processes;
  • using rich learning experiences that reflect contemporary best practice and cater for student diversity.

The Numeracy Project provides a range of site-based, cluster and central professional learning opportunities to support school Literacy and Numeracy plans and individual Performance Enhancement plans. These are described in the various menu items on the website.
