Teaching and Learning Framework

The NT Teaching and Learning Framework is a collaborative initiative involving a number of key DEET and DEET Building Better Schools projects:
- Teaching and Learning Framework
- Special Pedagogies
- Professional Learning Communities
- Middle Years
- Early Years - Strong Beginnings
- Senior Years - NTCE Review
- Literacy and Numeracy approaches that work
- Teaching Schools partnership between DEET and Charles Darwin University
Key Outcomes
The NT Teaching and Learning Framework project has the following key outcomes:
- NT educators contribute to the NT Teaching and Learning Framework
- NT educators reflect on current practice and identify areas for future professional learning
- NT educators build a repertoire of effective teaching and learning strategies that are used appropriately to suit a range of learners, areas of learning and contexts of learning
- Educators use the NT Teaching and Learning Framework (the how), with the NT Curriculum Framework (the what) to design, deliver and assess quality teaching and learning opportunities.
What actions have been initiated?
A number of actions have been initiated:
- ET2 positions have been funded to work in schools to develop school, cluster or Local Area Implementation Group action learning
- Schools and groups of schools have been invited to apply for grants through Principals Weekly Update #12, these closed 4 May 2007. Project information will be available on the website in July 2007.
- Analysis of research and policies on quality teaching, from Australia, UK, USA and Singapore has, resulted in the development of Version 1 of NT Teaching and Learning Framework. This document will be available on this website in July 2007. The content and structure of Version 1 is as follows:
- Elements of Quality Teaching. These include Principles, Practices, Strategies, Tactics, Organisers (including Learning Design models) and Resources
- School Effectiveness Elements that enable and support quality teaching. These are the Hill and Crevola nine elements identified in the Accountability and Performance Improvement Framework [link to this on DEET website] and in the School Assessment Tool [link to this on MY website]
- Principles of Professional Learning . These are under development in DEET. Contact Kate Fegan in People and Learning for more information.
- Processes and tools for professional reflection and dialogue with colleagues through looking at student and teacher work.
- Professional Learning opportunities have been offered to Teachers of Exemplary practice, teaching and learning leaders in schools and Divisions in relation to:
- Looking at the quality of student thinking in evidence of learning using a theoretical model called the Structure of Observed Learning Outcomes (SOLO)
- Exploring quality teaching in relation to developing a learning management approach to meeting the needs of learners who can demonstrate challenges to classrooms.
