Reporting Guidelines

The Northern Territory Curriculum Framework provides guidelines for NT school communities for reporting student learning. The purpose of reporting is to communicate information about student achievement to students, parents/carers, school administrators and school councils.

Formal reporting is a summary of the progress the student is making and should be based on recorded evidence that reflects what students know and what they can do with what they know.

Student reports should include ongoing feedback, self-assessment and goal setting to encourage student reflection and responsibility for their own learning. Schools have the responsibility of assessing and providing regular, formal and informal reports on student progress.

Schools are encouraged to establish effective partnerships between parents/carers to negotiate reporting procedures and written report forms with the school council should play a key role in this.

At least two written reports should be provided within a school year (including at a minimum the required A to E Report). Individual Education Plan Reviews and teacher/student annotated student portfolios are examples of a written report. English Literacy and Numeracy progress must be included in every written report.

An opportunity for parents/carers to attend at least one formal interview within each school year must be provided. Schools should provide other opportunities for informal discussions between teachers and parents/carers when requested.
