About Teaching, Learning and Standards

"Working with you to improve learning outcomes for all NT students."

The purpose of Teaching, Learning and Standards is to provide quality, innovative and future oriented professional learning and curriculum frameworks for all Northern Territory teachers and students from Preschool to Year 12.

A key function of Teaching, Learning and Standards is to support the implementation of the Northern Territory Curriculum Framework (NTCF) in NT Government and non-government schools for students in years T – 10. This is in the process of being extended to include preschool, hence becoming the framework for pre-compulsory and compulsory schooling.

Through a Service Level Agreement with the Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia (SSABSA), Teaching, Learning and Standards also supports the implementation of the Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE) in schools for students in years 11 and 12.

Education officers

  • coordinate and facilitate system-wide professional learning workshops for teachers across all stages of schooling and in all major project areas
  • work in partnership with schools to develop and implement school-based professional learning
  • offer support to individual teachers in learner-centred outcome-focused planning, teaching and learning, assessing and reporting.

Teaching, Learning and Standards source, collate, develop and evaluate a range of materials to support classroom teachers in implementing the NTCF. Support materials are developed in response to identified school priorities, DEET initiatives and national curriculum and assessment developments. These materials are available online, to teachers, through Explore NT.
