Middle Years of Schooling Guide

Together with the Northern Territory Curriculum Framework, the Guide to Planning, Teaching, Assessing, and Reporting Learning in the Middle Years of Schooling is a starting point that assists teachers to develop teaching and learning experiences for adolescent learners.

It describes effective teaching and learning approaches to enable students to take an active part in negotiating, designing and assessing their learning. The guide therefore provides teachers with:

  • practical explanations of the research and theory underpinning middle schooling
  • strategies for planning, teaching, assessing, recording and reporting learning in the Middle Years
  • examples and templates for planning learning in the Middle Years
  • an annotated bibliography describing high quality teacher reference materials
  • websites and reference lists for further personal research and learning.

The guide is intended to support classroom teachers as they prepare and plan for Middle Years implementation. It complements the range of resources available to support school leaders and teachers. Teachers are encouraged to use the contents of the folder as an opportunity to further develop their professional resource base by contributing to and building on what has been provided.
