What a wonderful workshop Alice Springs (3-4 May)
Message from Rita Henry, Executive Director Central Australia, DEET Alice Springs
If you haven't already made plans for the May Day long weekend, I urge you to consider the fabulous opportunity being offered by Matt Blyth. Please see his email below. And if you have made plans, but they aren't as exciting as this promises to be, perhaps you could change your mind!
Central Australia has a history of great film-making, and we have an opportunity to grow future film-makers through this departmental initiative, Connecting through Film. I hope many of our schools will support the film festival enthusiastically.

Sick of doing workshops and never having the time to enjoy what you’re
learning about? If you’re in Alice Springs over the May Day long weekend
you could do a filmmaking workshop that will engage your class, make
learning fun, give you a bucketful of laughs... and a licence to
shoot weddings, baptisms and bar mitzvahs.
Register now for Video Production 101, a workshop that will demystify the filmmaking process (and enable you to show films at Christmas that your family will actually want to watch!)
Matt Blyth, coordinator of Connecting Through Film 2008 Schools Film Festival is an experienced teacher and filmmaker. He spent much of last year working for DreamWorks as a video split operator on a major American feature The Ruins.
As a teacher at Alekarenge and teaching Principal at Kiana School in the Barkly, Matt has seen first-hand how teaching film engage students. At Kiana, Matt saw the school’s enrolments more than double in six months, attendance average above 85% and students enjoying coming to school.
