School Drug Education

Drug Education, within Health Promoting Schools NT is able to:

  • Support schools, teachers and communities in the development of a School Drug Policy promoting health and wellbeing within the Health Promoting Schools ethos;
     
  • Support schools, teachers and communities in the planning, programming and implementation of comprehensive integrated drug education;
     
  • Advise teachers, schools and communities in relation to best practise in drug education;
     
  • Coordinate and provide professional development using the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) resources, the WA School Drug Education Project resources, the Indigenous Drug Education Support Materials (IDESMs) and access supplementary resources such as the 7 Core Themes provided by the School Based Police Officers;
     
  • Liaise with the National School Drug Education Strategy to ensure the Northern Territory works within the National Drug Strategic Framework;
     
  • Suggest appropriate resources for drug education, specifically Resilience Education, Harm Minimisation and Self Esteem;
     
  • Provide incentives for schools and communities to build on previous NT initiatives to promote resilience and build their self-efficacy.
