NT Australian Government Quality Teacher Programme
What is NT AGQTP?
The Australian Government recognises the importance of commitment to supporting and developing teachers’ skills in key priority areas. Since its inception in 1999, the national Australian Government Quality Teacher Programme AGQTP aims to implement the Teachers for the 21st Century initiative. Teachers have taken up more than 240,000 professional development opportunities across Australia since the programme began.
The AGQTP includes state and territory projects as well as strategic national projects. It recognises that education of the highest quality is the foundation of all our futures and requires teachers of the highest quality.
In the Northern Territory, the Australian Government Quality Teacher Programme (NT AGQTP) is a cross-sectoral program involving the Department of Employment, Education and Training (DEET), the Catholic Education Office of the NT (CEONT) and the Association of Independent Schools of the NT (AISNT).
The Australian Government has committed funds for the program to commence in 2006 until 2009.
The programme provides opportunities for ongoing and targeted professional development to meet individual and school needs. The aim of the program is to provide initiatives:
- To equip teachers with the skills and knowledge needed for teaching in the 21st century
