Northern Territory Distance Learning Service

The Northern Territory Distance Learning Service (NTDLS) charter is to develop relevant learning solutions for geographically remote students in home and school settings. To achieve this NTDLS will realign distance based learning services towards a connected service communicated via leading edge communication systems.



Key initiatives

  • Realign the services delivered by the 3 schools of distance learning. This initiative embodies Alice Springs School of the Air, Katherine School of the Air and NT Open Education Centre.
  • Develop and trial models of sustainable virtual schooling for schools wishing to be providers of distance learning and learning by distance. This initiative is to provide students access to specialist teachers, specialist subjects and subject content via leading edge communication technologies.
  • To fully develop the capacity of the Materials and ICT Unit. This initiative aims to establish innovative and collaboration pathways with the key stakeholders of DEET in the pursuit of efficient and effective learning materials.
  • To utilise the NTDLS as the systems governance body to coordinate all online services. The NTDLS Advisory Group membership includes ICPA, School Council Chairpersons, Principals of the schools, DEET Senior Representatives and chaired by Dep C.E.
  • To continue staff capacity building and to fully implement the Regional Learning Agent Program. This initiative is to provide schools and students with increased distance learning support.
