SACE Review
Overview of the Northern Territory Board of Studies' Response
The NT Board of Studies supports the overall directions of the SACE Review Report recommendations for a future SACE.
One of the key issues for the Board is the amount of investigation and preparation that needs to occur before the recommendations from the SACE Review Report can be implemented. Currently, implementation of the future SACE is due to commence in 2008 with the first group of year 10 students undertaking compulsory units for the SACE.
The Board believes this timeline does not offer adequate time to develop the new curriculum and assessment frameworks, to prepare teachers for delivery of these frameworks and to inform students and parents about the proposed changes. The Board has recommended an extended investigation and preparation time before the commencement of the future SACE.
The Board has noted strong feedback from stakeholders that implementation of these changes will require a well planned and ongoing professional development program and sufficient resources to ensure all teachers are fully prepared to implement the future SACE.
Once the South Australian Minister makes a final decision on the SACE Review Report’s recommendations, the Board will consider all aspects of the future SACE as a basis for a new Northern Territory Certificate of Education.
