South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) Review
Background
In 2004 the Hon Jane Lomax-Smith, the Minister for Education and Children’s Services in South Australia, commissioned a review of the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). The Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE) uses the SACE as the basis for its curriculum, assessment and certification framework, managed through a service level agreement with the Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia (SSABSA). As a result, the NT was given considerable opportunity for input into the initial SACE Review in 2004.
Success For All: The SACE Review Final Report was released on 7 March 2006.
The Report proposed 26 recommendations for a future SACE certificate. The South Australian Minister for Education and Children’s Services in South Australia indicated there would be an opportunity for consultation on the way forward with all but one of the recommendations.
Educators and other stakeholders in the Northern Territory were given the opportunity to provide feedback on the Report’s recommendations.
The Minister approved Recommendation 26 of the SACE Review Report, that the Minister commission an independent review of the SSABSA Act and the governance and operational arrangements. The review is currently underway and a Report will be presented to the South Australian Minister in October.
