Award Ceremonies
The Board holds student awards presentation ceremonies each year in Alice Springs and Darwin to publicly recognise the achievements of the year’s outstanding students.
The ceremony recognises academic excellence among school leavers. It formally recognises the top 20 students in the Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE); the students who have achieved a perfect score of 20 out of 20 for Stage 2 subjects or Outstanding Achievement scores for Community Studies subjects; the students who have been awarded the Lord Florey Student’s Prize; and our top students in industry-sponsored awards for particular subjects.
The events are held in the first two weeks in February hosted by the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory and the Minister for Employment, Education and Training.
These ceremonies are a time to pay tribute to the tremendous work of students, but also recognise the people who helped them excel - parents, friends, and members of their communities - as well as the principals, teachers and curriculum staff who have worked to ensure the Northern Territory gets the best results.

Primary School Administrator’s Awards
Territory primary school students are awarded Administrators medals at the Northern Territory Board of Studies events. These awards recognise students who have made a significant contribution to their school and the broader community through outstanding citizenship, whilst also achieving academic excellence.
Academic Excellence Awards
The Board offers Academic Excellence awards to students in their final years of primary, middle and senior schooling. The Academic Excellence awards do not form a part of the award ceremonies, but are presented to winning students at their end of year school functions. Board members are often invited to present these awards.
The Academic Excellence award consists of a Certificate of Merit and a $50 prize. The principal/head teacher and school council determine the criteria for selecting winners of Academic Excellence awards.
