Teacher Exchanges
Teacher Exchange is an opportunity for an experienced teacher to further develop teaching skills by practising in a different teaching system and a new environment. Many exchange teachers find that the year in another system is an enormous boost to their effectiveness and enthusiasm as a teacher.

Northern Territory – Indonesia Teacher and Student Exchange program
In response to Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) travel advice, NT teachers and students are not currently being placed on exchange in Indonesia. NT schools continue to host Indonesian participants.
The Northern Territory - Indonesia Teacher and Student Exchange Program aims to improve the language proficiency and cultural awareness of participants, to develop the personal qualities of tolerance, adaptability and initiative, and to increase understanding and friendship between the two nations. It seeks to assist and promote the teaching of Indonesian Language and Culture in the Northern Territory community and of English language and Australian Culture in the Indonesian community.
The Program provides a professional development opportunity for teachers to broaden their personal and professional experience and expertise with the understanding that this development will contribute to the education process in their parent education system upon their return.
Students will gain practical and intellectual enrichment from their period of exchange and return home with skills, attitudes and insight that will assist them in their private lives, their studies and their careers.
Through community involvement and the reciprocal hosting of teachers and students, the benefits of the exchange will extend to the wider community. The network that develops through this Exchange Program will assist social, cultural, political and commercial interchange and will have a long-term impact on relations between Australia and Indonesia.
Student Exchanges
Opportunities for students to study overseas are a recognised valuable educational experience within the Northern Territory. Exchange programs provide a range of opportunities for Northern Territory students to travel and study overseas and to gain from exposure to the cultures of a host country. The opportunity for schools to host exchange students provides opportunities for an interchange of cultures and a broadening of experience foe all students.
