The Australian
Directions in Indigenous Education 2005-2008 (MCEETYA 2006) paper
outlines a national move to accelerate Indigenous education outcomes
by engaging Indigenous children, young people and their families
in learning. It strives to provide strong leadership, quality programs
and strategies to attract and retain the best teachers in the Territory.
The priority areas include quality early childhood education for
Indigenous children so that they get off to a strong start; school
and community educational partnerships; school leadership; quality
education and pathways to training, employment and higher education.
The national paper strengthens and compliments the NT DET Indigenous Education Strategic Plan 2006-2009, which aims to build a strong and relevant education system that delivers results for Indigenous Territorians.
Alice Springs Indigenous Education Strategy
The Alice Springs Indigenous Education Strategy outlines the principles, initiatives and programs that the department has put in place to improve school attendance and results for Indigenous children.
