More Indigenous Teacher's Plan
The Department of Employment, Education and Training's (DEET) 'More Indigenous Teacher's Plan' aims to increase the Northern Territory's Indigenous teacher workforce by fourty new teachers in four years. The plan identifies three specific programs that are currently underway which aim to increase the number of Indigenous teachers in DEET.
The programs target the following groups:
Indigenous Fellowship and Indigenous Scholarship Programs
This program is a co-funded partnership between DEET and the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).
The National Indigenous Cadetship Program (NICP)
This program
is a co-funded partnership
between DEET and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations
(DEWR). NICP provides a financial and study support package to assist
Indigenous people to complete a degree in Teacher education and become
teachers within DEET.
