Top Centralian students honoured

Rita Henry and Emily RyanCentral Australia’s top students for 2007 will be honoured at the Northern Territory Board of Studies (NTBOS) presentation function at the Crowne Plaza Alice Springs at 3.15pm this afternoon.

Ms Rita Henry, Executive Director Central Australia and Mrs Pat Miller, AO, Deputy of the Administrator of the Northern Territory will present a range of merit certificates and awards to Alice Springs’ top achievers and scholars.

The ceremony recognises academic excellence among 2007 school leavers, with formal recognition of the top 20 students in the Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE); the students who have achieved a perfect score of 20 out of 20 for Stage 2 subjects or Outstanding Achievement scores for Community Studies subjects; the students who have been awarded the Lord Florey Student’s Prize; and top students in industry-sponsored awards for particular subjects.

The top Alice Springs students for 2007 are Sashika Richards from St Philip’s College and Emily Ryan and David Johnston from Centralian Senior Secondary College.

The prestigious Administrator’s Medals will also be awarded to primary school students at today’s ceremony. They recognise strength of character and responsibility, as well as academic achievement.

The Top End’s award recipients will be recognised at a ceremony on Friday 8 February to be held in the Great Hall at Parliament House in Darwin.
