Katherine Group School celebrates songbook

30 May 2008

Katherine Group School celebrates songbookEducation Chief Executive Margaret Banks congratulated the staff and students of Katherine Group School yesterday at the official launch of their first Songbook.

“What is fantastic about this songbook is that it represents a genuine celebration of success,” Ms Banks said.

“The songs and images reflect the creativity, talent and positive attitudes of students from 13 schools that make up Katherine Group School and gives an insight in to what they have been studying.”

The songbook contains a collection of 26 songs that were written by Katherine Group School students in collaboration with musicians Shellie Morris, and Pete and Kerrie Arthur from STAMP Music.

Ms Banks said, “The quality is outstanding and demonstrates the commitment and innovation of school staff and musicians in improving educational outcomes for our students.”

Some 200 copies of the book and a CD containing all the songs have been published and will be distributed among Katherine School Group students and families.

The songbook has been made possible with funding from the Australian Government, the Fred Hollows Foundation and Katherine Group Schools.

Ms Banks formally launched the songbook in Mataranka yesterday evening as part of the Katherine Group School’s annual Mataranka Sports and Culture week.

“This is an achievement that the whole school community can be proud of and something that I hope you reflect on with great pride in the future,” she said.
