Opportunity for business and industry to engage with students
4 June 2008
Employment, Education and Training Chief Executive Margaret Banks has called on industry groups, the business sector, professional associations and training organisations to showcase themselves to students, parents and the general public at this year’s Career Expos.
“The expos provide a great opportunity for school students and parents to explore career opportunities and identify future career pathways,” she said.
“They present an opportunity for employers to get the word out about what opportunities they can offer young people and they can be particularly influential in the decision making process of Year 10-12 students who are considering their employment options.”
Ms Banks acknowledged the Territory’s school career advisors and thanked them for the strategic and practical role they fulfil in schools and with students.
“They are bridge builders and path makers that facilitate the transition from school to work and collectively will work with hundreds of our young people in the weeks leading up to the Career Expos.
“They’re responsible for the planning and implementation of career development programs in schools, for coordinating work experience and work placements, and for providing students with guidance and advice about subject selection, career options and career pathways.”
Career Expos will be held at prominent venues in the Territory’s five major population centres starting at the Showgrounds in Darwin on 7 August. Others are as follows:
13 August - Tennant Creek Civic Hall in Tennant Creek
14 August - St Philip’s College in Alice Springs
18 August - Katherine High School in Katherine
20 August - Nhulunbuy Town Hall in Nhulunbuy
