Belyuen School and Moil Primary School have shared the honours in the Darwin Convention Centre school art exhibition.
Moil Primary School won the Chief Minister’s Choice Award for a montage put together by Year 5-6 students that depicts a cross-section of sea life.
Belyuen School won the People’s Choice Award for its set of eight stunning acrylic works each of which featured a stylised sea creature.
A delighted Belyuen Principal Tim Webb said the school community would be really happy with the news.
“All of our students from pre-school to Year 7 participated in one way or another,” he said.
Mr Webb acknowledged the hand played by Janie Andrews, who has been working with students courtesy of the Artists in Schools program.
Meanwhile Moil Principal Pam Erfurt said she was proud of the students and staff who had contributed to their work.
She said the opportunity to develop the piece had fitted in neatly with environmental and ecological studies during Semester 1.
Both schools will receive $1000 for their winning entries.
Some 12 schools contributed about 100 works of art that explored the theme Our Connection with the Sea.
The artworks were on display during celebrations marking the opening of the Convention Centre in Darwin last week.
