SACE review to direct future of the Northern Territory Certificate of Education
Northern Territory principals from Government and non-Government schools will attend briefing sessions today, regarding the future direction of the Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE).
Chief Executive, Department of Employment, Education and Training, Margaret Banks said the basis of NTCE is the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) which is about to undergo a major reform – aimed at renewing secondary education.
“Today’s briefings will give principals an opportunity to be further informed about the possible implications for Northern Territory students and teachers involved in secondary education. It will include a short presentation on the major features of the future SACE.
“From now until the end of Term 1 2007, educators and parents in the Northern Territory will have the opportunity to consider the implications of the future SACE for the NTCE. As schools are always very busy at the commencement of the school year, it is likely that much of the discussion about the SACE will occur in March 2007.
“Comments on the future SACE and what it means for the NTCE will be considered by the Northern Territory Board of Studies, the body responsible for the implementation of the NTCE in the NT.
“Any changes to the NTCE will not happen before 2009 and the changes will be phased in over time. Students who are currently undertaking the NTCE, or who are due to commence their NTCE in 2007, will not be affected by these changes,“ said Ms Banks.
The opportunity for parents and teaching staff to make comments in response to the Future South Australian Certificate of Education and how it will affect Northern Territory students is available via a link at http://www.deet.nt.gov.au/education/ntbos.
Further information about the future SACE and what it means for the NTCE can be accessed at the Northern Territory Board of Studies website http://www.deet.nt.gov.au/education/ntbos.
