DEET Deputy Chief Executive John Hassed said the newly branded Careers Expo (formerly Futures Expo) is a mechanism for students, teachers, parents and the general public to learn more about training, further education and future employment opportunities.
“The Northern Territory Government and DEET are focused on skilling and training our workforce, and the Careers Expo is a great way for Territorians to find out about job options and opportunities,” Mr Hassed said.
Careers Expo will feature exhibitors from a range of industries, businesses, training providers, government departments, and educational organisations from both the Territory and interstate.
“There will be a strong emphasis on the range of pathways available to Territory students to assist them in the transition from school to work,” Mr Hassed said.
“Most students attending the expos will be in Years 10 to 12, and the expo will certainly help these secondary students determine which subjects may be most useful for the employment paths they choose to pursue,” he said.
“The expos present an opportunity for schools and industry to develop relationships and to expand the Vocational Education Training in Schools (VETiS) program.
Mr Hassed urged industry groups, the business sector, professional associations and training organisations to become involved and take advantage of the chance to showcase their services to the students, parents and general public visiting the Careers Expo.
‘This is a prime opportunity to talk to young people and the general public about job opportunities in your industry.”
There will be sessions designated to schools until 3pm (excluding Alice Springs), after which time the general public will be welcome to attend.
