Friday 29 July 2005

Employers vying for the top Employer award in the Department of Employment, Education and Training NT Training Awards 2005 include Bechtel/Darwin Liquid Natural Gas Project, Territory Insurance Office and Hastings Deering (Australia) Ltd.

The Bechtel/Darwin Liquid Natural Gas Project focuses on responsible and responsive business practice and provides employees with every opportunity to reach their full potential. Peter Naughton, Director Access Working Careers, commends their provision of ‘life changing experiences’. Bechtel offers a range of training including in house, pre employment and over 500 online options available both on and off the job through Bechtel University and CDU.

Training is at the centre of employee development at Territory Insurance Office. TIO’s Training and Development Unit was established to ensure collaborative and consistent opportunities through the research, development and delivery of competency-based learning opportunities. To date, TIO’s investment has yielded pathways through 197 internal and external courses and a range of training approaches including coaching and mentoring.

Ongoing commitment to training at Hastings Deering (Australia) includes a focus on frontline management to get the best out of their people and opportunities for multi-skilling and innovation as they strive toward continuous business improvement. The training is focussed on core and elective modules in safety, leadership and customer service as well as computing and a technical training pathway. All structured training is followed by a period of mentorship and continual safety monitoring.

In the Small Business category, Mitchell Street Child Care Centre has been awarded recognition from both Group Training NT and Rotary. Equitable and integrated training development is high on their agenda. The Centre will be recognised for training achievements at the presentation function.

The Awards Presentation will be held on 10 September at a gala dinner in Darwin.
