WorldSkills Competitions

Thursday 23 June 2005

Team Australia has won three Gold and two Bronze medals and 15 Medallions of Excellence at the 2005 WorldSkills competition in Helsinki.

Now the Department of Employment, Education and Training (DEET) want enthusiastic young Territorians to take the challenge to compete for a place on the team for the 2007 international competition in Japan.

Worldskills competitions are trade and skill competitions that challenge young people to achieve work skill excellence.

2005 is a regional competition year and WorldSkills Australia is challenging all skilled Northern Territorians under 23 years of age and school students undertaking a Vocational Education and Training (VET) subject to participate in the Northern Territory regional competitions being held in September this year.

Application forms for the 2005 competitions can be obtained from the WorldSkills page on this site or by contacting Peter Chan at DEET on 8901 1356.

The competition highlights the importance of VET as a career option and motivates young people by focusing on the 'fun' of learning through interesting and diverse skill challenges.

The WorldSkills competitions are divided into two areas, the Open competition and Vocational, Education and the Training in Schools (VETiS) competition.

The WorldSkills mission is to challenge young people, their teachers, trainers and employers to achieve world class standards in work skills and to promote the status of VET across Australia.
