Palmerston students sign futures charter
20 April 2007
More than 160 Palmerston High School students have made an important promise about the next 12 months of their lives. The Year 10 students participated in the Palmerston Futures Charter Signing, a commitment to be either in school, a job, or in training in 12 month’s time.
Parents, local business and community leaders and several DEET executive members were on hand to witness the signing ceremony, which took place at the school on 4 April.
Guest speakers included Beacon Foundation Stage Manager Hayley McGill, and former Palmerston High School student Ben Thomas, who is now the Grocery Manager at Coles Palmerston.
The Palmerston Futures Charter began in 2003 as an initiative of the Beacon Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that focuses on job creation for youth. It has continued to develop and expand into a range of innovative senior secondary programs at Palmerston High School.
The 2007 program includes a Prevocational Taster Program, industry visits, work experience, guest speakers and career pathways planning for all Year 10 students.
