A troupe of 10 Indonesian student-artists has enthralled hundreds of Territory school students during a five-day whistle-stop tour of schools in Darwin, Palmerston, the rural area and Katherine.
The troupe, from the Padang Panjang Highschool for the Arts in West Sumatra, conducted a series of performances and workshops and joined in cross-cultural activities with students in 18 schools between 30 April and 4 May.
DEET’s Engaging with Asia Officer Jennifer Ure said the main study focus of the West Sumatra Year 12 students was to preserve the arts and culture of their province.
“The culture of West Sumatra is unique to Indonesia and the music and dance is vibrant, colourful and magical,” she said.
The troupe visited Katherine School of the Air on 4 May where they performed live to remote students via distance-learning technology.
Ms Ure thanked the Indonesian Consulate for helping to facilitate a program of Indonesian Cultural Workshops that made this trip possible.
