Central Australia celebrates NTCE success

Monday 6 February 2006

Family, friends, principals and teachers have gathered to support and celebrate the high achievements of students in Central Australia at this year’s annual Northern Territory Board of Studies (NTBOS) awards ceremony in Alice Springs.

The celebration honoured students for their hard work and commitment to study over the past 12 years and recognised the achievement of a junior student in his transition from primary to secondary school.

Northern Territory Deputy of the Administrator Mrs Pat Miller AO congratulated students on their success whilst presenting the Administrator’s Medal in Alice Springs.

“I applaud and congratulate Connor Skoss on his achievements and the positive spirit he has displayed at Larapinta Primary School and in the broader community. I would also like to offer my congratulations to all who have won prizes. These awards are about honouring the outstanding success and contribution of these fine young Territorians,” said Mrs Miller.

Member for MacDonnell Alison Anderson presented three of the five Central Australian students in the Territory’s top 20 with their awards.

The winners included three students from Centralian Senior Secondary College (CSSC) – Sylvia Giles, Laura Packham and Sonia Johnson – as well as Jane O’Loughlin from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College, and Alexandra Willick of St Philip’s College.

A highlight of the evening included the presentation of the Chief Minister’s top Indigenous student award to Cherisse Buzzacott of CSSC.

"I still can’t believe that it happened, " said Cherisse. "I’m shocked to get into the 80s, but to get 86 and be the top Indigenous student in the Territory, is such a great honour."
