Great team spirit at Ti Tree Bush Sports Carnival
Tuesday 5 September 2006
Participants showed tremendous competitive and team spirit at both the sporting and social events that made up the Ti Tree Bush Sports Carnival on 30-31 August.
For the first time, an interstate team - Marian College (Ararat) - participated in the annual carnival, which previously had been a showcase for the skills and talents of students from remote Central Australian and Barkly region schools.
Ti Tree School Principal Zania Liddle said about 400 students gathered for the two-day carnival to take part in Aussie rules football, softball, T-ball, cross country, track and field, spear throwing and novelty events.
The home team proudly won the junior football competition, but Laramba did particularly well in many of the team events – winning the senior football and senior men’s basketball competitions, the senior women’s softball and junior women’s softball and basketball competitions.
Ms Liddle said teams from Utopia, Ali Curung, Murray Downs, Alcoota, Harts Range, Bonya Homeland Learning Centre, Stirling School, and Laramba also took part.
Ti Tree School’s first principal Ian Reid (1969-73) was a special guest at this year’s carnival.
Ms Liddle said the occasion had generated a lot of excitement and pride and that everyone was exhausted but exhilarated by carnival’s end.
Cross country trophy winners were: senior female – Francine of Utopia School; senior male – Toshie of Utopia School; junior female – Kateryn Jane of Bonya; junior male – Tristian Kunoth of Harts Range.
