NT Training Awards finalists short-listed
Monday 18 July 2005
Shortlist judging has now been finalised for the Department of Employment, Education and Training's (DEET) prestigious NT Training Awards, with a high calibre of entries reported by this year’s judging panel. The annual awards recognise outstanding achievement in the vocational education and training sector, and culminate in a gala presentation dinner held in September.
Deputy Chief Executive John Hassed said the shortlist judging was a detailed process involving representatives from industry, the vocational education and training sector, DEET and last year’s student category winners.
“This year has seen an increase in nominations over previous years,” said Mr Hassed.
“Much of that can be attributed to the great interest in and attendance at a series of informative workshops orchestrated by DEET in major Territory centres back in April.
“Past winners spoke about their experiences and provided a few ‘trade secrets’ which really encouraged this year’s nominees,” he said.
Mr Hassed said the winners will be announced at the NT Training Awards night on 10 September, DEET’s premiere event to celebrate excellence in vocational education and training. The awards honour and reward the achievements of apprentices, trainees, vocational students, Indigenous students, school-based new apprentices, training organisations, employers and others committed to training.
“Since inception in 1955, the DEET NT Training Awards have grown to become a prestigious event on the training calendar, and many Northern Territory winners have gone on to be winners at the national level.”
This year’s winners will go on to represent the Territory at the Australian Training Awards in Perth on November 17.
Sponsors of the DEET NT Training Awards include the Department of Education, Science and Training, New Apprenticeships Centre, Group Training Northern Territory, Alcan, Bechtel, Rotary Club of Nightcliff, Chamber of Commerce NT, Night N Day Autocare and Australia Post.
Short-listed finalists are detailed on the awards website at www.vet.nt.gov.au/awards.
