WorldSkills Northern Territory Regional Competitions
The WorldSkills competitions are trade and skill competitions that challenge young people to achieve work skill excellence.
The competitions highlight the importance of Vocational Education and Training (VET) as a career option and stimulates the academic motivation of many students by focusing on the 'fun' of learning through interesting and diverse skill challenges. The WorldSkills competitions is divided into two areas, the Open competition and Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) competition.
Australia became a member country of WorldSkills International in 1981 and has participated in every international competition since joining. The WorldSkills mission is to challenge young people, their teachers, trainers and employers to achieve world class standards in work skills and to promote the status of VET across Australia.
2007 Northern Territory Regional Competitions
The Territory’s best apprentices are putting their skills to the test against each other in the WorldSkills Northern Territory regional competitions being held in Darwin region and Nhulunbuy. Contenders competed in 8 categories that made up the two sections - vocational education and training in schools (VETiS) and the open section.

WorldSkills competitions are designed to encourage young Australians to strive for skills excellence, and are aligned with the training competencies that the respective competitors are studying. As part of Jobs Plan NT, DEET has focused on ongoing collaboration with industry to foster interest in skills shortage areas, and WorldSkills helps raise the profile of and celebrate such trades.
