Time to celebrate learning

Education Week (3-9 September) is a time for people across the Northern Territory to celebrate teaching and learning in our schools.

In the Northern Territory, Education Week is held annually to coincide with National Literacy and Numeracy Week and Engaging with Asia Week.

National Literacy and Numeracy Week is a Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) initiative to promote literacy and numeracy teaching and learning in schools throughout Australia.  Engaging with Asia Week, formerly Asia in Schools Week, celebrates the richness of our diverse communities by focusing on studies of Asia through literacy events.

The theme for Education Week 2007 is ‘Making a Difference’, reflecting the purpose of education: to make a difference to young Territorians' lives now and in the future.

The Education Week program incorporates a number of activities, including:

  • Education Week launch and National Literacy and Numeracy Week Awards Ceremony (Tuesday 4 September) at Darwin’s Raintree Park
  • The launch of the 2007 Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards
  • Displays of student work in local community libraries across the Northern Territory
  • Call for nominations for the Westfield Chief Minister’s Scholarship Program 2007.

Schools will also conduct their own activities. Contact your school to find out what they have planned.
