Gala opening for Centralian Girls Sports Academy 04 Mar 2010
Former Australian Boomer Ricky Grace and the Deadly Award winning Yabu Band, were on hand to help celebrate the opening of the Centralian Girls Sports Academy at the Centralian Senior College and Centralian Middle School in Alice Springs on 3 March. Minister for Central Australia Karl Hampton officially opened the academy, jointly funded by the Territory and Australian governments under the Australian Government's Sporting Chance program. Like the successful Clontarf programs for boys, Sporting Chance use sport as an incentive to keep teenage girls at school. Other Sporting Chance academies are being developed at Palmerston High, Katherine High and the Jabiru and Gunbalanya campuses of West Arnhem College.
Fulbright Scholarship to connect the Territory’s best to the US 17 Feb 2010
The announcement of a prestigious scholarship at Charles Darwin University will allow Northern Territory scholars to expand their professional horizons in the United States. A new Fulbright scholarship, announced at Charles Darwin University on 16 February, will enable recipients to study in the United States for up to 12 months. The $46,000 scholarship is jointly funded by the Territory Government, Charles Darwin University and Blackboard Asia Pacific and is specifically for Territorians. Chief Executive Gary Barnes attended the ceremony, along with Regional Vice President, BlackBoard Asia Pacific, Zach Johnson, U.S. Consul General Michael Thurston, and Vice-Chancellor of CDU Professor Barney Glover.
Green light for road safety 12 Feb 2010
Schools have been given the green light on road safety following the launch of the Safer Roads School Curriculum Resource for early childhood teachers earlier this month. Teaching road safety to school children at an early age is central to changing the Territorys driving culture and making our roads safer. Media release
