Back to school for 2012 01 Feb 2012
About 44,000 students across the NT started the new school year this week, along with 160 new teachers. The family of each student receives a $75 Back to School payment to go towards the cost of books and uniforms. For students at Gunbalanya the school year started three weeks earlier as they trial a flexible school year – part of the Department of Education and Training’s focus on initiatives for greater attendance in our schools. Getting students to school more often has proven to improve literacy and numeracy skills of those students. These initiatives support the Government’s Territory 2030 aims of delivering quality education throughout the NT.
